The Eser Bunny: I am done arguing about race for the following reasons.

zacheser:

  1. I am entitled to my opinion and you are entitled to yours.
  2. My opinion isn’t going to change. You may or may not agree with me, but that’s it.
  3. We don’t live in a post-racial society. That would infer that everyone, or the majority, is colorblind and that isn’t the case.
  4. I, however, like to…
This is precisely why I don’t say things to people, ever. All everyone wants to do is yell at each other. I am not forcing my ideas or opinions on anyone. If you are wrong, I will correct you. But I will not waste my words on anyone for very long. You are entitled to your opinion. If you are wrong, you can continue to be wrong if you want, but not until I have respectfully and calmly explained why I think you are wrong. Then I will shut the fuck up and let you live your life how you have become accustomed. If you see my opinion as valid, I trust that as a thinking sentient human being, you will accept it and include it in your own daily mantra. If not, ignorance truly is bliss.

Sorry I’m not sorry, but if your ***opinion*** negatively effects other people, then it stops being an opinion and starts being a tool of oppression. This isn’t about ***opinions***. You can have an opinion about what wine goes best with fish or when it is appropriate to wear jeans. You cannot have an opinion on other people’s lives and how the external factors you may or may not be a part of effect their experience. “That shit” matters if it matters to the person who has to navigate it on a daily basis. Claiming to be “color blind” reduces other people’s experiences. The only thing that will make me shut up is if I overstep my role as an ally and silence PoC. If a group of people tell you that your depiction of their experience is incorrect, then it is time for you to shut up.

no but seriously i feel like you can’t have a valid “opinion” of something you aren’t really a part of. it isn’t your life so it isn’t your place to have an “opinion” about it. i saw a response stating that ‘white people are naturally treated better’ and it’s completely true- white privilege, regardless of your income, is very real. try and deny it, try and say it doesn’t affect you as a white person, and i will tell you you’re wrong. it’s a construct that, regardless of its remarkable ability to create achievement gaps in various levels of life, is real. and it matters. it oppresses PoC every day. it’s an awful system that is embedded in our culture. don’t try and discount it to ‘my family doesn’t have a lot of money and we have to work for things, i don’t have white privilege.’ as you do not truly know the alternate experience, you cannot make that kind of commentary on it.

(also i’m sorry if my argument is invalid as well i really tried because the previous post really struck me as an important point)
